1967: Year of Legends

The pinnacle of 1960's F1 machinery: one of the most beautiful racing cars of its era alongside, irrefutably, the best.

On 18th June 1967, Dan Gurney took a historic victory in the Belgian Grand Prix in the beautiful Eagle Gurney-Weslake T1. Starting in the middle of the starting grid, Gurney initially followed Jim Clark's Lotus 49. Clark encountered problems on Lap 12, dropping him down to ninth position. Having moved up to second position, Gurney set the fastest lap of the race on Lap 19. Two laps later he completed his victory.

It would be the Eagle’s first and last Grand Prix victory in its one and only season of competition. Dan Gurney’s career as a driver, race car constructor and team owner makes him one of the most important figures in the history of American motor sport.

The Lotus 49, with its brand new Ford Cosworth DFV mounted rigidly behind Jim Clark, first appeared at the 1967 Dutch Grand Prix. The Lotus beat the Eagle to pole position and never looked back.

In amongst many notable races, Jim Clark's drive in the 1967 Italian Grand Prix is regarded as one of the greatest ever in F1 to this day.

The Lotus 49 and Clark did not win the Championship in 1967, however Jim Clark’s victory in Mexico was his 24th career Grand Prix win; placing Clark alongside the great Juan Manuel Fangio.

The 1967 season was to be Jim Clark’s last full year in racing.
Two incredible machines. Two legendary drivers. A remarkable era in motor sport.
