Racing Scalextric for the beginner can be great fun and through trial and error skills will be learnt.
Some basics:
- Take time to learn the limits of the cars as well as your own reaction times and hand-to-eye co-ordination.
- Put the brakes on BEFORE arriving at the corner!
- Do not expect the car to go round a layout at full speed. This should not nomally be possible.
- As a generalisation, only expect half speed as a maximum in corners.
- Build up speed gradually to find out at what point the race car will deslot in a corner.
- Remember that the race cars are likely to break if crashed!
Shortly after 'getting a handle' on this new game, the beginner will want to set up a small competition race with family and friends. Here are some basic rules to help achieve good fair racing.
- Decide and agree the rules before racing.
- Use a lap counter (C8215 or C7039 for Digital).
- The Race (example):
- Set race length for 10 laps.
- The winner goes forward to the semi finals.
- Repeat Heats with all winners going forward to semi-finals.
- Run semi-final race.
- Grand Final: During the race, when a car crashes all drivers stop and wait until the crashed car has been re-slotted.
- The race continues when all drivers are ready.
- Make it a rule that waiting drivers or spectators must act as Marshals to put cars back in the slot.
