Guides & Braids explained
In the past years many guide blades and braid parts have come and gone. In fact, there are about 30 different types recorded since 1957!
Guide blades and braid evolve for performance, cost and regulatory reasons. So, it's seldom possible to have just one guide blade (unfortunately!).
With many changes since the year 2000 it is a good idea to take a look at what is available today. This FAQ doesn't cover guide blades for cars not in the current range.
In 2007 the Scalextric range of cars generally use what is known as the 'Black Round Guide Blade'. This is a guide blade with a round plate which hold a round braid plate.
This can be found in the spares range under reference C8329. The pack contains one guide blade, a screw to hold the blade on to the chassis and four braid plates. This guide assembly is used for all cars in the current range with the following exceptions: Drift cars, Motorbikes, Challenger, and all other cars pre 2004.
Note 1: This is only a guide. Use the Service Sheets Service Sheets for accurate reference.
Many cars were adapted from one guide blade to another. F1 cars are far to numerous to be able to give a reasonably accurate guide - again, you will have to identify the exact model using the Service Sheets.
Note 2: Blue short stem guide blades are now replaced with black short stem guide blades.
