Classic Rallycross Champions Limited Edition

History
Towards the end of the Group B era of Rallycross, the duels between Will Gollop (Metro 6R4) and Martin Schanche (Ford RS200) passed into motorsport legend. Two of the closest fought seasons in the European Rallycross Championship produced a title apiece for the pair; Norwegian Schanche winning through in 1991 when Gollop’s challenge was ended by huge crash in the penultimate event. Schanche later described the ’91 title as the ‘hardest won’ of his six championships.
The following year Gollop turned the tables on “Mr Rallycross”, but again there was great drama; Schanche receiving a two-race ban after stopping the Finnish round of the championship by standing in the track. Schanche then put substitute drivers in his Ford RS200 in a bid to take points from Gollop and the battle raged on when Schanche returned in the Summer. When Gollop finally put his name to the crown, the Englishman had the added satisfaction of doing so in Schanche’s ‘back yard’ in Norway.
For many fans, the Group B era – 1987 to 1992 – remains the golden period in the history of the European Rallycross Championship and Gollop-Schanche the most compelling rivalry.
Scalextric pairs the Rallycross superstars from this golden moment in motorsport in this superb limited edition of only 3,000 sets.
