SScalextric, SCX, What is Scalextric STS?

Hello All,

I know there is a historic relationship between Scalextric Classic amd the original SCX and that the tracks are compatable. I saw on the internet a track system called Scalextric STS 4x4. The tracks were brown in colour (off road style). Are they the same size as scalextric classic? the tabs seem different?

Richard.

Hi Richard. Scalextric Super Track System (STS) was made by SCX (Exin) in Spain from 1985 to 1990. The off-road 4x4 cars are around 1/43 scale and the track is smaller than the SCX / Scalextric 'Classic' track and not compatible.

The STS 4x4 cars do run on the SCX / Classic track, athough the beauty of STS was the specialist rally-style track system and the smaller size, so you could fit complex layouts in small spaces - maybe a room full of different rally stages.

There are some exceedingly cool videos if you search Scalextric STS or STS 4x4 in YouTube. There's also this great website (in Spanish): https://sts4x4.com/

Hello Woodcote, and thanks for that infomation. It would be fantastic if Scalextric did a Sport version of those rally style tracks. I would be first in line to get a set.

Well... you can use the Ninco chicane as an adapter to SCX/Scalextric classic and then the C8222 adapter for Sport <-> Classic to connect Ninco's off road track to Sport.

SCX also made offroad analog track as well that is somewhat hard to get outside of Spain. The slot depth is the same as Salectric classic so newer cars may "bottom out".

But we all know Scalextic's powerbases are the best and these adapters are only a necessary evil. :-)
