Please keep posts on topic - we're discussing how to straighten tank tracks and I'd rather avoid an argument on spares and returns policies.

Please keep in mind that the Forum is primarily a place to help modellers with their layouts - if someone is asking for help please look to help them first and avoid pulling threads off topic with Forum discussion or raising concerns.

Edit: This thread has had several posts removed, to which the post above refers to.

Over the last few days it has become apparent that there is some confusion about the moderation team and how they help on the Forum. In an attempt to make the situation clear, I thought it would be helpful to create this post to outline how moderation works here on the Hornby Forum.

The starting point must be the Forum Rules & Guidelines which state, “While every effort is made to contact you before any censorship, we reserve the right to amend or remove any content without explanation.” and “We reserve the right to remove or censor ANY post at our discretion.” The moderators (and I) will endeavour to let you know if a post or a thread of yours has been hidden, however, there are many occasions where this won’t be possible, and you should not expect any notification.

It is also important to keep in mind why posts will be removed from the Forum. There are obvious reasons such as misplaced posts or topics, swearing, spam or the like, but the moderation team also try to tend to the Forum such that redundant or repetitive threads and posts are consolidated or hidden. This aspect of moderation will always be open to debate but each decision the moderation team and myself make are in the best interests of the Forum. Furthermore, posts may need to be hidden if they are connected to a thread or post that needs to be removed. Remember, these webpages are maintained to offer a fresh and welcoming atmosphere to anyone with an interest in model railways.

Lastly, if you have any concerns with these rules or with any actions of the moderators please contact me directly. Discussion on the Forum will not be entered in to as this simply creates more debate.

Before I go, please take a moment to appreciate the tricky situation the moderation team are in. They are on the Forum more often than most and tend to a huge range of tasks (not least the amount of spam we receive). The position offers no benefits and difficult decisions often need to made for the Forum as a whole. Moreover, most of the tasks are carried out such that they go completely unnoticed by the majority of the Forum community – a pretty thankless task.

I hope that clarifies the situation and, as always, if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

I’d like to avoid this thread descending any further into insults, or worse. I can assure you we will never design a kit incorrectly to try to get sales further down the line. It’s quality that brings modellers back.

If anyone is unhappy with a kit they receive, please contact our Customer Services team. They will do all they can to help and if we reach a point where we can’t help, we will try to offer some next steps instead (returning the kit to your place of purchase, for example).

Congratulations to motleyalice, who has been selected as the winner of our Forum Christmas Competition 2018!

Scalextric is something my brother and I raced against each other with since I was eight years old. It became - and remains - a family tradition to have a series of races throughout December, culminating in a day of finals on Boxing Day. Now passed on to my nephew and niece, who love it too.

Just like last year, it was incredibly tough to pick a winner out of so many fantastic entries. Thank you to everyone who entered, and I hope, like me, you’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s posts.

Do remember that other competitions, and treats, are still to come with our Advent Calendar as we count down the days until Christmas – be sure to check it out.

From everyone here at Scalextric we hope you have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Congratulations to dgilbert2, who has been selected as the winner of our Forum Christmas Competition 2018!

Christmas comes but once a year, but when the magical Hornby train pulls in on Christmas Day, the memory lasts a lifetime. We continue the journey this year by giving a first Hornby trainset to our latest family member, so the magic carries on into the future once more, with our next generation. Thank you Hornby for helping generate some of the best Christmas magic and lifetime memories ever.

Congratulations to Bucknall, who has been selected as the winner of our Forum Christmas Competition 2018!

After all the excitement of Xmas Day has faded it is so satisfying to spend some calm time concentrating on an Airfix kit with my visiting nephew. The excitement of opening the glossy box, the smell of the plastic, checking out the instructions and cutting the first pieces from the sprue is always timeless. It’s Quality Time shared and passing on a lifelong hobby to the next generation. Priceless.

Entry from Phantom4ever

I was seven years old and my Dad bought me my first kits. These were the Frog DH110 and Gloster Javelin. My first Airfix kit was the F4 Phantom in RN markings. Im now 57 years old and from those early days of the hobby making it's mark I've always had Airfix kits in my possession, both in kitform and made up. I've nearly got every kit I had as a child back in my collection. I'm searching for the Fiat G91 as my main search at the moment. I was extremely concerned with the ownership issues over the years of, to me, wandering in the wilds. The last issue really had me worried as I really didn't want Airfix to go the way of Frog and Matchbox. I'm really happy that it's now at home with another British Institution. May Airfix remain a leader where it belongs in the modelling world.

Entry from Titch The Trainman

I remember as a small boy waking up one Christmas morning to find that Father Christmas had made my dream come true, my very own train set. In fact I still have that loco today my little blue Nellie and it's still going strong. That's what started my love of model railways which continues today, which is enjoyed by my Nephew. It would be great to win a set so I come be Father Christmas and give him his first train of his own to enjoy.
