So far in my life I have avoided owning a portable smart device eg phone or tablet - I just dont have any real use or need for them to be honest. I can hear the younger generation now saying to themselves " what how do you survive without these devices ? You dont know what your missing out on ! " Its quite easy to not live your life devoted to such a thing..........but this is another subject and for another place.

I want to upgrade at some stage to probably ARC PROso I guess I might have finally found a reason to burden myself with 1 of these all life consuming devices. God help me , my dinosaur reputation will be in tatters.

Not a bad idea Andy P , cheers. I am still using the balsa for straight sections but the foam rubber is great around corners , especially R1 hairpins or so I am finding. Much easier to curve the foam rubber than too carve out balsa.

I think I will be selling all my store bought run offs and guardrails.

I am another recently returned "oldie" shadowman. I am constructing my track with 2 major hurdles. The first being limited area ( for the short term anyway) and the second being limited budget ( my other major hobby/sport/lifestyle being skiing which requires substantial funding ). Due to the second constraint I am sticking to analogue for a while which presents its own limitations to a degree.

However the limited area is providing me with its own entertainment. I must have laid down and ripped up my track at least 30 times as I discover the best usage of the area and what works and what doesnt as far as racing dynamics and what scenery I might be able to have. The making of my own scenery both landscape and trackside will stretch my limited funding further and is damn good fun into the bargain.

I decided to go cheap on the guardrails and runoffs so I am making my own from balsa , flynetting and skewers. The runoffs will be painted witth a little fine sand added to the mix for grip.

So I guess its old fashioned corner counting to keep things as equal as possible. Well that is a track design problem I hadn't considered.

Thanks for the input guys

Would really like to see a Holden Torana GTR XU1 even if only a limited edition for Aussie market. Its a seriously iconic vehicle in Oz. Other than that a series of late 60's early 70's GP cars even if its a re release of a few and a few new ones.

Problem solved , powerbase ok , but the solution has caused me another problem.

The problem was that I was running an odd amount of corner lane switchers , it seems these must be used in even numbers throughout a track. I tried a basic oval without any lane switch corners and everything worked properly so I put 1 lane switch corner in and the problem re-occurred. I put a second lane switch corner in and everything worked properly and so I put a third lane switch corner in and , yep , same problem. So now I know I must have an even number throughout the track which now leads me to another problem,

I have limited space ( 3m x 2.4m) and but I still want a decent length interesting enough track. If I had to split my area in half to create a symmetrical track I think this would be very limiting and not all that interesting. So how do I create an asymmetrical track ? Is there a lane switch piece that can be used singularly such as in a straight section or am I damned to symmetrical track setups ?

Cheers Woodcote. I will set up a small track tonight just to see what happens. If its a dud powerbase I will get it replaced. Luckily I have an older powerbase I can use in the meantime.

Oh and one other little bug bear with the Bathurst set. The L34 driven by Brock/Sampson comes without the MARLBORO advertising yet I also have Moffats XC with CAMEL FILTER advertising on it and thats not to mention the JPS BMW I also have.

Is it a copyright issue with MARLBORO ?

Forgive me for stuffing up and sending the same images several times.

The Bathurst Legends looks great and its always good to get Aussie cars but I only have 1 reservation about it. The cars they supply never actually raced against each other. Might have been better with either an  XC Falcon/L34 Torana combo or the XW Falcon/ Monaro or GTR XU1 Torana ( both of which would need to be developed by Scalextric just for historical accuracy.
