I have not yet tried the Magic app but I did see it being briefly trialled at the UK Slotcar Festival over the weekend. From what I saw of the app it looked very good.
The most obvious differences/enhancements in comparison with the Scalextric app appear to be:
1/ Landscape mode as a display option.
2/ More control over the precise shape of throttle curves (infinitely variable).
3/ Improved modelling of fuel usage and tyre wear - not just based on number of laps.
4/ ability to download and upload driver/race configurations.
(other features too I have no doubt)
Meanwhile, I am enjoying using the official Scalextric app on my ipad mini and iphone SE... I really like the bold and very readable graphics and the very straightforward and user-intuitive interface of the Scalextric app. That said, I am looking forward to road testing Magic’s app when the iOS version is released (hopefully soon).
It’s always nice to have options :-)
Later in the summer I plan to do a side-by-side reliability test of the two apps ... and for me the most critical feature is accuracy of lap counting. I will report back on this in August.
